
Susan Cayton will introduce you to the art of Kumihimo Braiding. You will learn how to make square, flat, or hollow braids on a square frame. She will explain the historic significance of this method as it was used for embellishing clothing, swords, and armor. Participants will have the chance to view several types of braiding frames, including Marudai (round frames) and Kakuai (square frames), both equipped with silk thread on weighted bobbins. Handouts will be provided. Please bring a pencil, a small pair of scissors, a tapestry needle, and a camera.

Step into the world of crocheted rag rugs with award-winning instructor Denise Carter. This class will teach you all the essential techniques needed to create an enduring heirloom. Using a giant crochet hook, Denise provides clear, step-by-step instructions on various techniques, including rag ripping, no-sew fabric connections, single crochet stitches, and finishing methods. Each participant will receive a size Q crochet hook, a colorful plastic tote, and several rolls of cotton fabric.

Explore the art of needle felting with Jackie Hill. In this class, you will learn how to use specialized tools to shape wool into a three-dimensional mushroom. All fibers and tools are provided for use during the session, though you are welcome to bring your own.

Experience the tactile pleasure of spinning with Nancy Kovacs and Deb Yeagle. This session covers the basics of spinning on a modern spinning wheel, a tool essential to the textile industry prior to the Industrial Revolution. Discover how to twist wool fibers into yarn, suitable for weaving, knitting, and crocheting. Nancy will also introduce you to wool preparation.

Join Pam Hammond and Colleen Maher as they guide you through the basics of spinning yarn on a drop spindle. Learn to spin wool using the park and draft or flick and draft technique. Each student will receive a spindle, cone holder for plying, instructions and starter wool. All fibers are pre-cleaned and ready for spinning.

Victoria Lowe, an experienced spinner since 2011, specializes in creating fine yarns. In this class, you will learn how to craft boucle, a curly, textured specialty yarn.
Bring your spinning wheel and any single ply yarn you wish to use. Specialty fibers will be provided in class so you can create your own unique boucle yarn.
